Geometry in the sawmill by Timber Expert.
Let's take the average log - 31 cm in diameter, 6 meters long, with an average runaway of 1.5 cm/m. Let's assume, which is very rare, that the log is perfectly flat. We saw with a narrow band saw, which has the minimum thickness of the kerf of 3 mm. That is, every cut of 3 mm turns into sawdust.

In order to minimize waste in sawdust, let's take the maximum possible log size for a given diameter of 31 cm log of 200x200 mm. The picture shows what will come out of this log in the end.
✅Blog 200x200x6000 mm - 1 piece (0.24 m3).
✅Board 150õ25õ6000 mm - 4 pcs(0.09 m3)
✅Board 150х25х3000 mm 4 pcs(0.045m3)
Total volume of sawn timber from this log: 0.375 m3.

The volume of logs with a diameter of 31 cm and a length of 6 meters is 0.555 m3 (see the table calculating the volume of roundwood GOST 2708-75). Total percentage yield of lumber: 67.6%!
So that under ideal conditions + 4 boards 3 dead, which are usually cheaper than 6 meters.
The price of softwood round timber 7500-8000 rubles./m3. Plus, add the cost of sawing 2000/3000 per m3 of finished product and only 1% of the curvature of the log reduces the yield of finished products by 8-12%!
