Finishing of a chalet-style country house with Siberian larch claddind.

Testimonial from LeChalet Construction Company. Order: 100 m2 of short (length 1-1.5 metres) 20x90 mm Siberian larch claddig. Rounded edge planks for the roof overhangs. Excellent use of the material. Good painting and installation from LeChalet.

Chalet-style country houses are a popular choice for those who want to relax in a rustic and cosy style. One of the key features of this style of architecture is the use of natural materials, including wood. Siberian larch is a popular choice for cladding such houses because of its durability, weather resistance and unique aesthetic qualities.

Using straight larch linings in roof linings and roof overhangs using our customer's house as an example. Consider the advantages of this material over others and its effect on the longevity of the roof.

Another advantage of the larch planned on this site is the use of shorter lengths of planks for the roof overhangs. In our production facility, these shorter planed boards, up to 1.9 metres in length, are always one and a half or even two times cheaper than the standard 2-6 metre material. Larch claddind is a mixture of grades: Extra + Prima + AB, providing a high quality finish at an affordable price.

IMPORTANT: Using shorter boards also has the added advantage that they are less prone to warping. This is because the shorter the length of the board, the less opportunity there is for movement and bending - warping, resulting in a more stable, stronger and consequently more durable finish. And the straight profile of the larch planking gives a classic and timeless look, which is ideal for chalet-style country houses.

Siberian larch cladding video overview

So our customer's example, as well as his detailed review, demonstrates that using larch linings for roof linings and eaves is not only more economical, but also a more aesthetic option that ensures reliable protection of the roof and its longevity.

IMPORTANT: Tongue tongue and groove profile like clapboard and others are also often used for eaves and roof eaves. The disadvantage of using them: the tongue-and-groove joint. Even if the board is well dried and oiled or treated with antiseptic, the slightest fluctuation in the length of the tongue and groove joint can lead to water ingress and a build-up of moisture. Such fluctuations can easily be caused by mistakes in the installation of the board, including the wrong choice of fasteners. In addition, there are places in the studs and grooves where water can accumulate, leading to rot as a consequence of warping and decay.
If in doubt, comparing the planken with the imitation beam or clapboard, it is better to opt for the planken: and it does not matter straight or beveled larch planken. At absolutely the same price, the use of larch wood joinery minimises the risk of warping of the boards.
