Architectural Excellence: Siberian Larch as the Gold Standard in Timber Facades

Siberian Larch, imported and used in the most stylish and modern homes that have won prestigious RIBA awards, is a material that architects in London and across the UK highly value. Despite its popularity and recognition in many award-winning buildings, the stunning facades we create with Siberian Larch are unparalleled. Imagine a home exterior so unique and breathtaking that it surpasses anything seen in London's prestigious architectural scene, even among RIBA-awarded homes. We share our expertise and offer fantastic design solutions that elevate your home's elegance and functionality. Discover how you can transform your home with our custom-ordered Siberian Larch facades, bringing a level of beauty and distinction that has yet to be seen, even at the esteemed RIBA awards.

Magic Facades: Transforming Your Home with Siberian Larch

The facade of a private house is its face, its business card, the first thing your guests and passersby see. When considering how to clad your home exterior, it's crucial to think about both beauty and functionality.

Finding the Perfect Exterior Cladding

Choosing the right exterior cladding can be overwhelming. You browse through various options, seeking inspiration and solutions, but often find no answers. The images of luxurious villas and mansions you see online are frequently fakes or stolen photos. Marketers eager to sell materials use others' photos and attribute their products falsely. For instance, they might label a photo as showcasing facade panels when it's something entirely different.

You start analyzing the details: is it a slatted facade, 3D panels, facade boards, or timber cladding? Could it be a slatted-style facade or wall panels? Vertical slats on the house facade can add a modern and stylish look. These choices can create a unique and striking appearance for your home. But how do you find the truth among these images and ideas? How do you choose what truly suits you?

Expert Guidance for Your Perfect Facade

Allow our expertise and professionalism to help you navigate and find the ideal solution for your home. We'll tell you the truth about various facades, show real photos, and provide reviews and information from actual builders. Your facade is not just an outer shell; it reflects your style and taste. Let your home inspire you and your family, impressing everyone who sees it.

Today, we share a facade review from our clients, revealing what lies behind it and what it's made of.

A Showcase of Modern Architectural Art

In Belostrov, amidst picturesque landscapes and near Sestroretsk, lies the gem of modern architectural art - the "Chehoff" cottage village. This project embodies a unique style, exclusively developed for "Chehoff" by a renowned German architectural firm led by Professor Michael Eichner, a recognized expert in "Green Building" and "Sustainable Urban Development."

The houses in "Chehoff" are a model of energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. They feature high energy-saving performance thanks to their flat roofs and panoramic glazing. Only the best imported technologies and custom elements are used. But what truly distinguishes these homes globally? It's the use of Siberian larch—a unique material acclaimed worldwide for its quality and beauty. Our larch timber facades are admired by architects in London, Vienna, Amsterdam, Munich, Switzerland, and France. They all recognize the unrivaled properties of Siberian larch and even envy us a little.

  • The Unmatched Qualities of Siberian Larch

Don't believe it? Ask Professor Michael Eichner how much Siberian larch is in Germany and how much the Germans admire it. Interestingly, all Siberian larch, whether in Germany or any other country, is imported! Siberian larch grows only in Russia and only in Siberia.

Each house in the village is unique and unparalleled. Facades made from larch timber require a professional approach, attention to detail, creative thinking, and quality materials. Designing such facades is labor-intensive and complex, requiring high levels of skill and precision. Wood is a living fabric capable of telling its story, providing warmth and coziness. These natural finishing materials become part of homes, creating a unique harmony with the surrounding nature.

  • The Art of Larch Timber Facades

Siberian larch cladding highlights the natural beauty and uniqueness of each building. Larch timber facades create the impression of 3D facades or facade panels, emphasizing their complexity and high quality. Vertical timber cladding is not only aesthetically appealing but also functional, providing additional protection and durability to structures.

  • The Charm of Modern Country Homes

Modern country homes: flat roofs, clear geometric shapes, meticulous precision in processing larch timber—all this creates unparalleled harmony and perfection. The geometry of lines and proportions of facade elements underline your home's elegance and style.

The Importance of Ventilated Facades

A ventilated facade is not just the outer shell of your house but a whole system that cares for the building's health and longevity. Imagine the facade as skin that needs to breathe. If your skin can't breathe, you start feeling uncomfortable; similarly, if the house can't breathe, numerous problems arise.

  • Deformation Issues: When people say larch "warps," it's often not the material's fault but improper facade ventilation. Without ventilation gaps at the top and bottom, moisture accumulates, causing the wood to expand and contract, leading to deformation.
  • Proper Sheathing: Start with the sheathing, the foundation for attaching cladding materials. It's essential to consider wood density and use different methods for working with larch and coniferous woods. Larch requires precise calculations and quality installation.
  • Ventilation Principle: The primary principle of a ventilated facade is the presence of ventilation gaps at the top and bottom. This ensures air circulation and prevents moisture accumulation. Larch requires a particularly meticulous approach; what pine can forgive, larch cannot.
  • Using Narrow Boards: Narrow boards, like slats, are less prone to deformation due to their smaller surface area. This reduces the risk of swelling and shrinking with changes in humidity and temperature.
  • Processing and Fastening: Processing the sheathing with antiseptic, correct sheathing steps, and properly selected fasteners, including self-tapping screws, are crucial for facade longevity. Using antiseptic prevents wood decay, and evenly distributing the load reduces deformation risk.

Why Elite Real Estate Prefers Siberian Larch

Larch: Your Peace, Quiet, and Safety

Larch offers peace and quiet. Did you know that larch facades absorb twice as much sound as coniferous woods? This means your home will be protected from not just wind and rain but also noise. In urban environments, where constant noise can be a real issue, this advantage is particularly significant. It's pleasant to come home to a place where tranquility and peace reign, where you can relax and unwind after a busy day.

But there's more. Larch is also known for its fire resistance. Unlike coniferous woods, which can ignite like matches, larch is very difficult to ignite. If dry pine needles can quickly catch fire and spread flames to insulation, larch will only smolder weakly. This significantly reduces the risk of fire, making your home safer. Siberian larch is one of the most fire-resistant trees, making it an ideal choice for those concerned about home safety.

Eaves and Overhangs: Architectural Elegance

As you can see, the eaves are perfectly integrated into the architecture, assembled from timbers and slats of varying widths. This fantastic and labor-intensive work creates the impression of a unified facade panel, giving the house a unique and modern look. However, designing and constructing homes with flat roofs and horizontal eaves requires considering several important aspects, especially if the eaves are clad in larch timbers and slats.

Structural Features of Horizontal Eaves:

  • Waterproofing: Flat horizontal eaves require thorough waterproofing, as water does not drain off them naturally.
  • Water Drainage: Hidden drainage systems must be provided for efficient water removal and to prevent stagnation.

Designing and constructing horizontal eaves with larch timbers and slats is a complex and laborious process. It demands high professionalism, attention to detail, and meticulousness at every stage. But the result is undoubtedly worth the effort. Such eaves not only serve their functional purpose, protecting the building from weather conditions, but also give the house an elegant and modern look that attracts attention and evokes admiration.

Custom Timber Dimensions: Uniqueness in Every Detail

Copying ideas is a form of talent recognition. However, only one in a hundred thousand can create something truly unique. Others will copy and present it as their own. In the world of social media and information noise, this is no longer interesting. We strive for originality and uniqueness in each project, keeping the developers' secrets.

The timber sizes we manufactured for this developer's project are non-standard and meet the client's project requirements, remaining a commercial secret. In construction, original solutions often become targets for copying. We aim for our clients' projects to be unique, so the timber sizes are selected and manufactured individually for each home, almost without repetition. This allows us to create unparalleled structures and maintain our competitiveness. We frequently receive calls and messages seeking information about the sizes of our timbers. You won't get that information from us!

However, we are ready to offer recommended standard sizes of dry-planed larch timbers that can be useful for independent planning and designing similar facades or finishes. These recommendations will help you navigate material choices, simplify construction, and significantly save costs. Standard timber sizes are not chosen randomly: boards are not just sawn into beams and slats of different sizes. This is the specificity of sawing, which we won't delve into here. However, standard sizes are always cheaper than custom-made ones.

When designing such facades, it's best to consult with wood processing technologists. We're not easy to find on the internet! If the size difference isn't critical for your project and structures, and you can't see the difference from a distance of 50 centimeters, we'll recommend a size that won't hurt your wallet. Sometimes a 1-2 mm difference can increase the cost by one and a half to two times. However, if precise dimensions are critical for the structure and millimeters matter, we are ready to manufacture your sizes, but it will always be more expensive.

Timber Grades: Understanding Quality

Many builders and people unfamiliar with woodworking believe that beams or slats should be perfect on both sides, without knots or defects. This stereotype is introduced by builders and people unfamiliar with real production conditions. In reality, nowhere in the world, except for carpentry and furniture production, is wood graded on both sides.

The photo and video showcase larch battens and beams, meticulously selected for a specific project and client. These pieces are made from the highest grades of wood—extra and prima—ensuring exceptional quality. The battens and beams have been sorted on one face and one side, indicating that other sides may contain knots or minor flaws that do not compromise either the strength or the geometry of the products. Planed and dry larch lumber is the perfect choice for your project.

Siberian larch: kiln-dried planed beams and laths

The entire sorting process focuses on one face side, related to sawing and planing features. As boards are transformed into precision items, knots and resin pockets are revealed. These defects on the back do not affect the structure's strength. In this project, we used extra + prima grade timbers and slats, sorted on both ends. This means that the other two sides of the timber may have knots and resin pockets, but no cracks along the entire length are allowed.

Extra + Prima Grade: For this project, the grade indicates that the wood is clean or has one defect, such as a resin pocket or a knot up to 10 mm per square meter on two sides. The reverse side may have larger knots and other defects. Grades are discussed individually with each client, allowing us to meet all requirements and wishes. Just look at this house facade! Is there anything to criticize? The grade and geometry of the timber are top-notch.

We don't produce extra grade timbers on all sides, as this is a furniture blank. If you need extra-grade larch timber on all four sides, it's better to turn to specialized manufacturers, and don't be surprised—the price will match.

The Magic and Art of Larch Timber Color

One of the most common questions on social media is: what is it painted with? It's no wonder since a house's appearance depends on many factors. The question isn't just "what is it painted with" but also "how is it painted." The facade color, this ruby shade, resembles ripe, juicy pomegranate. Have you seen anything like it elsewhere? I bet you haven't!

Each house in the developer's village has a unique facade and unique timber sizes. But what makes them truly special is the color. It's not just paint from a can, not just a shade number. Color is art. The color that will never be replicated, that will be only on your facade, unique as you and your home. Such color cannot be copied or repeated. It is the result of meticulous work by a talented colorist.

Creating Unique Shades: Shades are not created all at once. You need to skillfully mix paints, understand proportions, create many painted samples, and observe how they change under various conditions. The facade shade changes depending on the time of day and year. In the morning, it's one color, in the evening another, in sunny weather—a third, and in snow and rain—a fourth. Therefore, what looks beautiful in social media photos or on a hardware store palette often does not match what you see on your home's facade. Artificial lighting can change shades beyond recognition, making them far from reality.

For painting, we used German natural wood oils from Leinos. This is not an advertisement but confirmed quality over the years. But often, people ask what it's painted with. It's also important to know how it's painted. Ninety percent of the result and durability depends on the painting technology. In our article "Painting Wood: From Cheap to Expensive, from Unattractive to Luxury—Before and After," we have already explained how to paint Siberian larch correctly and how those who claim it should be painted in the workshop can deceive you.

Professional Painting Techniques

Elite real estate demands a special approach. Many paint service providers claim that painting on-site is unprofessional, but that's far from true. Most houses in the most expensive areas, like Rublyovka, have fantastic facades thanks to on-site painting. Real professionals know that the result depends not only on the material but also on the technique. The true elite trusts only the best specialists who can guarantee quality results and unique colors.

Painting facades is not just a job; it's an art. And this art requires understanding, patience, and talent. Mixing paints, selecting shades, creating samples—all these tasks are only possible for true masters of their craft. Quality color and durability distinguish a professional from an amateur.

Yes, it's not cheap! But a facade that is never replicated anywhere and by anyone—the facade of your home—is worth it! The labor and talent, the knowledge and experience of people too... When guests arrive or drive by, they exclaim: "Wow!" And the real pleasure when your facade doesn't peel off in a year is priceless.

We write objectively, based on over 20 years of experience interacting with developers. Over the years, we've seen how various painting methods, oils, and wood paints behave. We don't paint ourselves, so we have no reason to speak ill of anyone. Here, it's a matter of budget, and many things you see on social media are not just untrue but blatant lies for marketing and selling services! We share our experience objectively—ours and our clients', from private developers to large developers and cottage village builders.
